Fathers/Mothers Day = Parents Day

In our house we don't celebrate Father's Day or Mother's Day instead we call it Parent's day, why Parents day you ask?

Well families these days are not made up of just a Dad or Mum anymore, families are all different these days you can have two guys/ladies raising a kid(s) or a single parent family.

With our step daughter having friends that cover all these types of families we thought to hell with fathers/mothers day lets just have a parents day.

That doesn't mean our daughter misses out of Fathers/Mothers Day stalls at school she still shops there & the presents go away till we have parents day.

Also it means we can go out for a meal or buy a present for parent's day & not have to pay an arm or leg like you do when it comes to Fathers/Mothers Day.

Our daughter is not missing out but we are just combining two wonderful days into one.

Is anyone else game enough to ditch Fathers/Mothers Day & just have a parents day?

  1. Interesting post. My parents are divorced and both remarried. My step-siblings are both seperately adopted. So our family is quite the mish-mash of labels and stereotypes! We do do Mothers/Fathers day, but it is interesting because while I would have no problem giving my STEP dad a father's day card, I would not give my STEP mum a mother's day card. Don't really know why, just wouldn't. I do try to send her an email or text just to say hi and love you though...
Another thing we did when my mum remarried was a "special day". My step brother and sister had a "special day" which was the anniversary of them being adopted. My "special day" became the day I met them all for the first time. We don't celebrate them any more now we're older but it was a nice way to settle in to the family when we first came together :)

  2. Parents day is a great idea. I'd also like to think that every day is parents day - which is the response I'd get from my own parents about children's day whenever I'd ask why we didn't have one.

  4. I like the parent's day idea, but I don't know if I could get my kids to hide the pressies long enough to wait for parent's day. Kid's day is a good idea too. We started a Christmas in July where we just buy a few cute fun cheap gifts (mostly from op shops and garage sales) for each other, just the kids and I. Started it as a way to celebrate that we are still a family, the three of us (four if you count the cat!)

  5. Parents day is a great idea, but we'd fight over who makes the pancakes, I'm afraid. Maybe when the kids get bigger and can treat us both?

But really, the pancakes is it at our house. We don't really celebrate all the hallmark days at all. x

I love my mothers' day sleep in! We make our own cards, my husband is getting quite good at it actually =)
I don't think I could give up *my* day.
